Easily one of the most famous motorcycles to ever come out of Italy, the Laverda SFC was a half-faired beauty built for racing. Per its factory designation, SFC stood for Super Freni Competizione, or “Super Brakes Competition.”
The brakes weren’t the only aspect of the bike that were super: Laverda also treated the engine to a bigger valves and fitted it with 36mm Amal carbs to boost power up to 75 horsepower, resulting was a top speed of about 135 miles per hour.
Moreover, Laverda meticulously dyno tested each engine to ensure at least 70 horsepower was produced. In order to accommodate the extra power, the Italian marque also strengthened the frame compared to the SF model.
Nowadays, the Laverda name has all but evaporated, unfortunately, sitting dormant under the umbrella of the Piaggio group. Want to know more about why this bike has become such a legend? Check out this article from Motorcycle Classics.
