The CB400F wasn’t as fast as its competition, but it was smoother, quieter, and more efficient. It also had some of the most beautiful production exhaust headers ever built, which are known by some as the “waterfall pipes” and are so iconic that Honda brought them back for the new CB650F!

Featuring a relatively rare-for-the-time six-speed transmission, the CB400F was styled somewhat like a cafe racer and had an engine that produced 37 horsepower. Weighing just over 400 pounds, a rider could knock off the quarter mile in about 14.1 seconds. It’s a basic, classic bike that would be just fine serving as a lovely daily rider. For more information, check out this story on Motorcyclist where they call it “the first real sportbike“.

Manufactured in March 1975, this example is VIN: CB400F1028896.

The odometer shows 10,738 miles.

The seller inherited this bike from his father, who had it for roughly a decade. He is selling off his father’s collection, which included a 1964 Rickman Metisse MkIII that he recently sold here on Iconic. “This bike belonged to my dad, Roger Riddell. It was a project bike and built to be a fun run around town bike.”
Maintenance:
In 2024, the seller had DK Motorcycle Center in Bountiful, Utah coat the fuel tank, rebuild the carbs, lube cables, replace the spark plugs, and perform a safety inspection.
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, change the engine oil/filter, flush the hydraulic fluid, install a new front brake switch, clean/adjust/lube the chain, install new mirrors, and install a new left hand switch.
