Description

Additional photos on this 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900 are available here for your perusal.

One of the most important bikes of the 70s, the Kawasaki Z1 set all sorts of speed records at Daytona within a year of its debut.

The Z1 has a fun story – Kawasaki thought they were going to be first to market with a 4 cylinder 750cc sport bike…and then Honda blew them away with the CB750. Kawi wisely decided to go bigger instead, and the 903cc powerplant impressed the press and customers with 82 horsepower. In their home market of Japan, the government mandated a displacement limit of 750cc, so Kawasaki created the smaller Z2 instead.

1975 brought enough changes that the chassis code became the Z1-B – said changes included more power, better suspension, better brakes, and a stiffer frame. Styling tweaks included different paint color options and different logos on the sidecover.

This example is VIN: Z1F50281. The seller purchased it from the original owner in West Palm Beach, Florida over a year ago.

During his ownership, the seller has covered 121 miles. The odometer shows 21,258 miles.

The engine is not original – the original owner and selling dealership have provided documentation as to what happened and those documents can be viewed here:

Original Owner

The original engine number was Z1E-050312. The replacement engine number is Z1E-070886. The dealership that replaced the engine was told by Kawasaki’s Warrany Administration that “apparently, a few engine cases on the line in Japan got mixed up during production. Kawasaki Z1 engine cases are mated due to the fact that they are line bored at the factory once bolted together. This means that the engine cases have to stay together and cannot be interchanged. [This] was unfortunately one of the motorcycles that received mismatched engine cases.”

Maintenance:
Brand new top end, new Wiseco pistons, new valve guides and seals. New heavy duty valve springs, along with new head and base gaskets, intake cam degreed at 108 and exhaust cam degreed at 108.”

Engine oil and filter changed in January 2022.”

Front hydraulic, brake system completely gone through and functions perfectly, rear mechanical brake system checked out, adjusted and works perfectly.”

New Continental Classic Attack tires and new tubes.

Modifications:
Brand new Kerker 4 into 1 exhaust.

Freshly rebuilt, 29mm smooth bore carburetors jetted correctly for Kerker exhaust.”

The sale includes the original carbs.

Dual drilled disk brakes, stainless steel spokes front and rear.

Luggage rack.

Some engine items have been chromed.

Pingel petcock.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The bike has original paint. Paint on gas tank in good shape but there is some minor paint issues on the fuel tank above the right hand Kawasaki tank emblem and above and below the left hand Kawasaki tank emblem. The original lower gold stripe on the fuel tank has some minor imperfections. Possibly from brake fluid.”

Inside of the tank.

The sale includes one key.

Currently located in West Palm Beach, Florida. This Kawasaki is offered on a clean Florida title.

The seller sums up his bike by saying “this Z1 900 runs, rides, and sounds fantastic. It’s ready to show or ride.” Have any Z1 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
