The Moto Guzzi 850 T holds a significant place in motorcycle history, in more ways than one. Built to a military standard, this motorcycle had to be durable above all else. The motorcycle was originally manufactured during a wartime era, and was developed with the idea of using it as fast-moving transport and reconnaissance vehicle. This touring motorcycle was part of the “T” series, which showcased Moto Guzzi’s unique transverse V-twin engine layout. The 844cc air-cooled engine featured a longitudinal crankshaft orientation and provided ample torque for long-distance rides, or for extended periods of use in the many theatres of war it saw service in. With a shorter-than-normal crankshaft and reinforced engine components such as a wider diameter rear main bearing, the 850 T was made to require minimal servicing.
The 850 T was good for 69 bhp, which was necessary to get up to speed and out of particularly dire situations an operator might find themselves in, or to simply cruise along a long stretch of road. Its frame was built with a double cradle design, which allowed the motorcycle to maintain a solid low-slung profile while keeping the integrity of the frame strong and robust. Intended as a motorcycle that would see extended use in the service of military forces, the Moto Guzzi 850 T offers a reliable and approachable package to any rider.
