After the death of its founder Count Domenico Agusta in 1971, MV Agusta was placed in a precarious financial position. Between internal labor shortages and external Japanese competition, the company faced some serious obstacles in its efforts to stay afloat.

As such, MV commissioned legendary automotive designer — and founder of Italdesign — Giorgio Giugiaro to pen the striking bike you see before you. Dubbed the 350 Ipotesi (Italian for hypothesis), the bike proved a resounding success when it debuted Milan Motorcycle Show in 1975. The highly geometrical lines were typical of Giugiaro’s automotive design at the time, and the flowing front fairing made for an ideal visual counterpart to the short, upswept tail.

Beyond its aesthetic qualities, the Ipotesi also housed some impressive technical achievements. Fed by dual Dell’Orto carbs, the 350cc air-cooled, four-stroke twin produced 34hp, redlined at 10,000rpm, and topped out just shy of 100mph. Cast magnesium wheels helped keep the bike to a svelte 352lbs, while a set of triple disc brakes ensured that riders had ample stopping power.

This example is VIN: 21601437, Engine #: 2160976. The seller (our friends at Northwest European) acquired the bike from a private collector in December 2022. He reports that it was first imported stateside following a 2019 auction in Paris.

It comes with Registration Certificate #514 from the MV Agusta Historical Registry.

The odometer shows 14,212 kilometers (8,830 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the seller: “the bike was sold as a static display bike in 2019. It has been in static storage since. Appears to be complete, but I have not attempted to start the bike. No idea when it was last run.”

Modifications:
The seller believes this Ipotesi to be stock.

Inside of the tank:

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“In fair to good condition overall.”
