In 1968, Suzuki figured that they could sell more bikes if they were able to demonstrate some racing success, and their T500 “Titan” twin was a great platform to start with. The resulting production racer was called the TR500 or the XR05. The model debuted at the Daytona 200 with a 5th place finish thanks to Ron Grant.

1973 brought the big change of liquid cooling, as well a new frame with triple disc brakes to rein in the increased power of 73 hp. 1975 was the final year of production, known as the Mk III. New cylinder barrels helped bump horsepower up to 80 and a top speed of 160 mph but Suzuki had just transitioned to the square 4-cylinder of the RG500 which would be the focus of their race department for years to come.

This example is VIN: TR500 10515. The seller acquired it from a private party in Australia in 2020.

The seller has not ridden the bike during his ownership. There is no odometer, true mileage is unknown.

This specific bike was featured in a 2020 article on MCNews in Australia with photography by the legendary Phil Aynsley.

“This race bike was delivered to us with Michelin PZ4’s (Michelins race tires 1975/1977) still fitted so it had not been raced since around 1977. Remarkably the tank front guard and seat have the original paint in perfect condition.

The fairing was refinished to a high standard.

Engine was rebuilt with new parts by a renowned race mechanic in Brisbane Australia. It comes with some spares, picture attached as well as a new radiator, not fitted. PWR (Ferrari F1 radiator producers). The original looks ok still but would not be good enough for track use.

Otherwise, this bike is very original and number 15 of 17 produced. This model was produced just before the Suzuki RG500 square 4 cylinder race bike was made available in limited numbers. All the European Factory Teams such as Texaco in the UK and Gallina in Italy ran them in the world championships as well as national and international race meetings until all the RG500’s were available.”

Maintenance:
“Complete engine rebuild and chassis refurbishment.”

It is riding on Avon tires that have aged out.
