The CB400F wasn’t as fast as its competition, but it was smoother, quieter, and more efficient. It also had some of the most beautiful production exhaust headers ever built, which are known by some as the “waterfall pipes” and are so iconic that Honda brought them back for the new CB650F!

Featuring a relatively rare-for-the-time six-speed transmission, the CB400F was styled somewhat like a cafe racer and had an engine that produced 37 horsepower. Weighing just over 400 pounds, a rider could knock off the quarter mile in about 14.1 seconds. It’s a basic, classic bike that would be just fine serving as a lovely daily rider. For more information, check out this story on Motorcyclist where they call it “the first real sportbike”.

This example is VIN: CB400F1086737.

It came to us out of the collection of motorcycles we’ve recently been selling out of South Africa, and it’s adorned in Parakeet Yellow.

The odometer shows 15,798 miles.

In preparation for the listing, we cleaned and synced the carbs, and installed new fuel lines, and a new Yuasa YB12A battery. We also installed all new wheels that Steve the Professor laced up as the wheels had internal rust, likely from moisture in the tires.

In addition, we installed new Dunlop D404 tires and tubes – the date codes are 1520 and 3920.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

The tank has been lined.

It has an aftermarket seat cover.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Honda is offered on a clean Oregon title. It comes with the plate it had while in South Africa.
