Affectionately called the “Monkey” in other markets, the Mini Trail (as branded in the US) started in 1961 as a ride at the Tama Tech amusement park, a former venture owned by a Honda subsidiary that was all about promoting the “joys of driving”.

The name came from the fact that riders looked like monkeys on the diminutive machines, but the bikes were so popular that Honda created a production version in 1964. Japan and Europe got to play with it first, but American riders got their chance in 1968 with a model designated the Z50.

This example is Engine #IP56FMJ1M024847. Because the frame has been powder coated, the VIN is difficult to read. The seller acquired it from I bought the bike off of craigslist in 2024. “I have too many minibike projects and I’m trying to get them all finished up and sold”

During their ownership, the seller has covered 5 miles. The bike does not have an odometer.

Maintenance:
“New white gas tank, new wiring harness, electrical components, switched to a 12 volt system, new seal at gear shifter, new gear shifter, new cables, new grips, new seat, fresh fluid change, new bulbs.”
Modifications:
Piranha 140cc motor and race exhaust.

“Frame, swing arm, and top clamp all have been powder coated white with a light flake in it.”

It is riding on Nitto tires which have aged out with date codes of 426.

The bike does not use ignition keys.

Cosmetic Blemishes: The seller states: “There are minor chips in the powder coat down in the sing arm and wheel area.” Please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
