Introduced in 1978, the Ducati 900 SSD Darmah was the sport focused evolution of the 900 SD. It carried over the square case bevel drive L-twin but added clip on handlebars, rearset pegs, and a half fairing that echoed the iconic 900 Super Sport. With its mix of aggressive ergonomics and practical refinement, the SSD was Ducati’s attempt to blend true sporting intent with everyday ride ability.

Power came from the 863 cc desmodromic twin producing roughly 70 horsepower, paired with 32 mm Dell’Orto carburetors, a five speed gearbox, and Brembo disc brakes front and rear. Marzocchi suspension and lightweight FPS alloy wheels arrived by 1980, complementing the taut chassis and distinctive two tone finish. It retained electric start, Bosch ignition, and the unmistakable bevel drive soundtrack that defined Ducati’s mechanical artistry of the era.

Only about 1,500 examples of the 900 SSD Darmah were produced, making it one of the rarest bevel drive Ducatis. Too heavy to be a pure race replica yet too sporty to be a tourer, it found a devoted audience among riders who valued individuality over convention. A fitting summary of Ducati itself in the early 1980s.

Manufactured in December 1979, this example is VIN: 950875. The seller bought the bike about 7 years ago from the daughter of the original owner after he passed away.
