In the late 70s, Honda offered both a CB750F and a CB900F, but per their marketing department the US only got the 750 and Europe only got the 900. Both markets were upset about this because humans always think the grass is greener on the other side. It took a few years, but Honda eventually satisfied the US by bringing the 900F over as well.
The press loved it – Cycle magazine called it “one of the best performance buys on the market.”
The seller of this build took that same motorcycle and built what they call the “CB900 R“. The seller combined the engine and frame of the ’82 CB900F with the suspension and wheels of a 2003 Suzuki GSX-R600, while the rest of the motorcycle featured bespoke parts, such as a custom seat, back footpeg, paint, and frame.
This example is VIN: JH2SC0102CM106551. The seller purchased both donor motorcycles that created this custom build six years ago from a private party in California.
The true mileage is unknown. The seller has put 1,400 miles on this example.
Maintenance:
The seller states they replaced the clutch, installed new engine seals, and mounted tires to the motorcycle.
The seller notes they refreshed and rebuilt the engine, and have included photos during the process.
Per the seller: “It’s the original engine that came with the bike. We replace all seals, piston rings, primary chain, rod bearing shell,. etc.. from this engine (see attached pics)…a very intensive job that took almost 2 year to finalize the bike. Lot’s of engineering to incorporate the swing arm of the gsxr into the cb original frame. ”
Modifications:
As this is a custom build, the modifications are extensive. Here is a list of the work done to this motorcycle:
Custom seat and custom paint job.
Handlebars, aftermarket levers, grips, mirror, and tinted windscreen.
2003 GSX-R front forks, and ’03 GSX-R600 wheels.
2003 GSX-R rear Ohlins monoshock.
Not pictured: New starter and clutch.
Per the seller: “We shorted the frame of the original 1982 CB to fit the mono shock and front inverted fork from a 2003 suzuki gsxr including the wheels.”
It is riding on Bridgestone tires from 2015.
Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
The seller reports that the front right fork seal needs to be replaced.
Currently located in Temecula, California, this Honda is offered on a clean California title with registration current through October 2023.
