First introduced in 1982 as a replacement for the one-year-only CR450, the Honda CR480R was more of a beginning than a sequel. For it’s first year (’82), the CR480R originally came with a 4-speed transmission, steel frame, and a respectable 52 horsepower all in a package weighing around 226 pounds wet.

These new numbers were more than enough for Honda to see relative success, as iconic racer Danny “Magoo” Chandler” went on to win the ’82 Superbikers Race onboard a CR480R.

Honda had it’s hands full in the off-road market, competing with the other major Japanese brands at the time while also fighting to appeal to the masses with a bike that was more than capable in less-than-capable hands.
