In spite of its humble stature, the MB5 has become something of a cult classic amongst Honda enthusiasts. For one, it was imported into the United States for just one year — 1982 — making the diminutive motorcycle something of rarity on our shores. What’s more, many riders have fond memories of ripping around on their friend’s MB5, so it’s got nostalgia working in its favor, too.

But the MB5 was also a very interesting machine in its own right. Styled to look like larger sportbikes at the time, it featured things like a front disc brake, a set of Comstar wheels, and even a tachometer with a 10,500rpm redline. The bike’s ingenious frame sported a triangular design, with a pair of tubes running from the headstock and cradling the tank.

Engine-wise, Honda eschewed its usual DOHC four-stroke in favor of a simple 49.5cc reed-valve two-stroke. When combined with a 16mm Keihin carb and a five speed gearbox, the bike was good for seven horsepower at 6,000rpm and a top speed right around 50mph. Because of its low weight (197lbs) and respectable fuel economy (as much as 75mpg), riders could expect around 160 miles from the 2.4-gallon tank.

Per a period Cycle World comparison against the Honda Passport: “The MB5 is a faster, more aggressive little machine, a raspy sport bike intended to be ridden more for entertainment than to take a six-pack of coke bottles back to the store.”

This example is VIN: JH2AC0104CK002618. The seller acquired the bike six years ago.

During ownership, the seller has covered approximately 1,000 miles. The odometer shows 1,612 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller reports that the “engine was rebuilt in 2018 at 1,400 miles.”

Modifications:
This MB5 appears to be stock.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Michelin Gazelle tires with date codes of 3810.

The sale includes one key.

The sale also includes the original owner’s manual along with a spare battery, a spare carb, some spare foot pegs, and some oil.
