Description
Donning the now famous moniker “Shovelhead” due to the iconic (and instantly recognizable) design of its valve covers, the FXRS first appeared in 1981 (’82 models) as a planned evolution of the FLT or the “Rubber-Glide”. However, the engineers realized a whole new sportier frame was needed and the FXR was born. The FXRS differentiated itself over the FXR with cast wheels and two-tone paint.
The power plant was still a V-Twin that pumped out 57 horsepower at 5,200 RPM which had to handle a whopping 620 pounds of motorcycle. With a 5-speed gearbox, this bike was capable of 100 miles per hour. Want to learn more? Check out this article in Cycle World from 1981 here.
