When it was first released, the Honda GL500 basically sat in a class by itself – a full dress, middleweight tourer. Like the Gold Wing, the Silver Wing was available as an Interstate model which came with the fairing, saddlebags, and trunk.
The first rendition of the GL500 used the 495cc V-Twin engine that most people associate with the CX500. It was good for 48 horsepower but the bike weighed a hefty 478 pounds dry. This bike got the 650cc engine from the CX650 and was built only between ’81 and ’82. The liquid-cooled V-twin was good for roughly 64 hp and a top speed of about 115 mph, making it more than adequate for long-distance travel.
Building off the success found in the middleweight touring market, Honda innovated further with features not usually seen in motorcycles at the time, such as a shaft-driven system, reducing maintenance – a key feature in a long-distance tourer. While it was only made for one year, the Interstate was another model in Honda’s line of motorcycle’s that exemplified the Japanese brand’s commitment to innovation and reliability.

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 38 miles. The odometer shows 14,650 miles.

The seller states, “The bike was in such excellent condition that I only had to put on new tries and a fresh battery. There is a massive amount of documentation on this bike that will be included with the sale.”
