A limited edition last gasp from the Italian firm, between 200-300 examples of the SFC1000 were intended to be produced – none for export to the US. Motorcycle Classics calls it “perhaps their best bike ever.”

While the Laverda triples were legendary in the 70s, as the 80s rolled around the bikes started to seem long in the tooth. The RGS was built as an evolution of the classic Jota, but many felt that it lost the aggressiveness of the 180 model. Laverda further evolved it into the SFC, brandishing it with a name that called back to the iconic SFC750 production racer.

Changes included a gold-painted frame, Verlicchi aluminum swingarm, Marzocchi adjustable suspension, brushed aluminum instrument cover, and an aluminum plate for mounting the rearsets with gold finishing and an embossed SFC logo.

The 981cc triple produced 100 horsepower, helping the bike attain a top speed of 143 miles per hour.

This example (VIN: ZLVMVDHA0D0000039, Engine #: 3226) is one of over thirty motorcycles that we will be auctioning off from the Alan Wilzig collection over the next couple of weeks. Alan acquired it 14 years ago from a private party on eBay.

Alan kept it on display and did not ride it. The odometer shows 13,671 kilometers (8,494 miles).

In preparation for the listing, we detailed it and verified that it starts and runs. If the next owner wishes to ride it, we would recommend a battery, fuel lines, carb clean/sync, hydraulic fluid flush, tires, filter on the PCV line, petcock rebuild, and oil/filter change. We also note that that the horn, neutral light, oil light, and turn signals do not work.

Modifications:
2/3 Update: The seller was able to share some additional information – this was a custom built by the late Lance Weil, the former owner of Rickey Racer (a Laverda performance shop) in Burbank, California. We’ve listed what we can identify below, but please let us know in the “Comments” tab if you spot anything else!

This Laverda features one of the most interesting front end setups we’ve ever seen. A commenter on our Instagram noted that it comes from GB/Ceriani, and this Italian website has a few additional photos of the design. A rough translation suggests that it’s built around 43mm tubes and were tested on Cagiva 500cc GP bikes of the time.

Billet master cylinders, Super Bike grips.

Billet front brake calipers.

Mono shock conversion with custom swingarm and bracing.

Aftermarket wheels.

Custom bodywork with repaint in the traditional Laverda orange.

Bar end mirrors (not currently installed).

Cosmetic Blemishes:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Pirelli MP7 Sport tires that have aged out.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Laverda is offered on a Bill of Sale only. Have any SFC1000 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
