Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1983 Yamaha XV920.
The Virago was introduced in 1981 with a 750cc motor as Yamaha’s first V-Twin cruiser. A year later, Yamaha introduced a 920cc option for $500 more ($3,700 total), though it also got you double disc brakes and a stiffer spring in the rear shock. Both displacements had a “Tour Deluxe” option, which provided a full-sized fairing, saddlebag, trunk, and “an optional stereo system for playing your favorite tunes.”
The 920cc air-cooled powerplant produced 65 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 56.4 lb-ft @ 5,000 rpm. Combined with it’s monoshock chassis, the Virago has become a favorite of cafe racer builders world wide. Want to know more? Check out this Retrospective from Rider Magazine, here.

True mileage unknown. The seller notes, “Current one is 129 miles which is after the rebuilt. Other photo is of the dash that bike came with originally and its 18,632.”
The seller states, “This bike is over a year of my life spend in the garage. I taught myself welding, engraving and masterd other mechanical skills that I already had. The end result is one of the biggest achievements of my life that has been also appreciated during 3 of the biggest motorcycle shows in America. It won The Spirit of The Quail 2025 award. It has been an amazing adventure to build this motorcycle, to see the vision becoming reality. I feel like Ive accomplished everything I wanted to and I would like to start another project.”
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “The bike is completely rebuilt. The engine has new piston rings, honed cylinders, lapped valves and seats. All new gaskets and seals. All electronics like stator, regulator, battery – all new with high quality parts like Ricks Motorsport and Motogadget. Rebulit forks, new rear shock, all new bearings and bushes. All new oils, filters, brake pads and shoes. Rebuilt calipers.”
Modifications:
“Its a fully custom motorcycle. The wiring harness is new and built for it. It uses mo.Unit Blue so you can start it with no key – just the app in your phone. A fob can be used too with keyless Motogadget ignition. A tiny, small coin sized fob can be used too (sewn into your riding glove for example). The golden accents are hand engraved into the tank, frame and the engine. The color scheme is a homage to the Midnight Special trim – 1983 was the only year for the Viragos and that’s one of them. The floral pattern is inspired by the Wild West vintage revolvers hence the show name of the bike – The Pistolet.”
It is riding on Pirelli Angel GT and Dunlop D404 tires with date codes of 0824 and 1524.
The sale includes two key fobs.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
“No blemishes or marks. I even kept the foil on the speedo and mirrors for the new owner to peel off (brand new bike exoerience).”
Currently located in Los Angeles, California this Yamaha is offered on a clean California title with registration current through July 2025.
