Please Note: The VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1984 Laverda RGS 1000 Executive incorrectly lists the year as 2014.

A true sport tourer, the Laverda RGS was one of the last manifestations of the big triple, though it was much tamer than the beloved Jota unit thanks to different crankshaft timing and rubber engine mounts. Some felt that the engine lost a bit of character in the process, but it became a much easier bike to tour on – especially with the half fairing.

The RGS production ran between 1982-1985, and approximately 2,500 bikes were built. The 981cc triple was paired with a 5-speed transmission, and the whole thing weighs over 550 pounds wet. For more on the RGS, check out this profile on Motorcycle Classics here.

The Executive model included color matched hard bags, extra wind protection, and taller bars. Some dealerships offered an “Executive package” but those were simply bolt-on kits whereas the factory run of Executives had a special VIN plate to match.

Manufactured June 1984, this example is VIN: ZLVMVDDA3E0000009. The seller is representing the owner’s estate and notes the owner purchased the bike in 2002 from the original owner.

During his ownership, the owner covered approximately 850 miles. The odometer shows 1,353 miles.

The seller states, “The bike is a two-owner bike that was purchased from the original owner out of CA, there is proof for this statement in the form of the original owner’s manual for the bike, with the original owner’s name in the front of the manual. The bike is a part of a private collection of 8 motorcycles, three of which are rare Laverda model bikes, each of which is one of 200 or 250 bikes brought into the U.S. by Laverda. The other bikes are also rare and collectible bikes as well. I’m representing the current owner of this bike for this listing as a 40 year friend of her husband. It is an original RGS 1000 Executive, not a clone, I can provide photos of the original fork ID/VIN tag on the bike to prove this fact.”
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “The bike has been maintained with fluid changes and flushes, over the time it has been owned by the current owner. The owner did all of the maintenance of the bike himself. New Odyssey PC-680 AGM battery installed this week.”

Modifications:
“Other than an aftermarket camera mounted on the bike, it is completely stock and original. It is one of 250 Laverda RGS 1000 Executives that were brought into the U.S. for sale. Everything is original and so is the paint on the bike.”

It is riding on Continental ContiRoadAttack 2 tires that have aged out.

The sale includes two keys and the owner’s manual.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller reports no blemishes on the bike.

Currently located in Chicago, Illinois this Laverda is offered on a clean Illinois title.
