In 1983, Freddie Spencer became the world’s youngest 500cc World Champion, and he did it on a Honda V3. Honda responded by releasing a 250cc production bike to commemorate the win, but it took them until 1985 to build something closer to the actual size of Freddie’s champion. That was the NS400R, and even though it gave up 100cc and plenty of power to the race bike, Honda called it a “race replica”.
The two-stroke V-3 displaced 387cc and it was good for 72 horsepower and 37 pound feet of torque, both at nearly 10,000 rpm. Oh – and the whole thing weighed less than 360 pounds. For more information on the NS400R, check out this article from Classic-Motorbikes.net. Depending on who you talked to, the NS400R wasn’t as fast or aggressive as the 500cc race reps from Yamaha and Suzuki – but the tradeoff was that this was a confident handling bike. A review rehosted on Motorcycle Specs says, “The NS is exciting and pretty near faultless.”
This example is VIN: NC191002609. The seller purchased the bike two years ago from a dealer in Las Vegas.
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 1,600 miles. The odometer shows 47,594 kilometers (29,573 miles).
Maintenance:
The seller states, “Bike is in excellent running condition. I do all my own mechanics. In the last two years I have: rebuilt both calipers and both master cylinders, installed new brake pads, aftermarket in-line fuel filter, stainless braided lines from Patriot Racing, ceramic-coated all 3 expansion chambers and installed new carbon fiber silencers, new Bridgestone BT46 tires (600 miles on them), replaced fork oil, transmission oil, turn bulbs. It also has Works Performance UltraCross rear shock with remote reservoir. Parts of the ATAC system are missing. Ian at Classic Race Replica’s has the whole system in stock for $500. The fan switch is non-functioning, I have installed a manual switch which does the trick. Only needed if stuck in traffic on a hot day.”
Modifications:
Carbon fiber silencers.
Ceramic coated expansion chambers.
Works Performance UltraCross shock.
Patriot Racing stainless steel brake lines.
It is riding on Bridgestone BT46 tires with date codes of 4220 and 5021.
The sale includes one key, NOS complete petcock, complete set of clutch friction discs (new in box), complete engine gasket set (also new), complete carb kit (new/unopened), and an OEM tail section for two-up riding.
