When it was released, the VF1000R was a bit of a revelation: it was Honda’s flagship, designed to showcase what the Japanese firm was capable of. It was also a huge tease to US riders, because it was initially only released in Europe only – America got the VF1000F instead, which was designed to be more of a touring bike.
The R was Honda’s first road bike to benefit from gear-driven cams and came decked out in fully faired, racer replica bodywork with rearset footpegs and adjustable clip-on handlebars for a more racer-ready riding position.
Manufactured March 1985, this example is VIN: JH2SC1606FM002129. The seller purchased the bike locally in 2018 and states, “Bought it in Boise from the original owner who purchased it new from the local Honda dealer. Bike had sat for a few years and needed the fuel system cleaned up. The tank was significantly scratched from a belt buckle so I had the tank repainted. All other fairings appear to be original.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 1,000 miles. The odometer shows 10,741 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Replaced carburetor boots, cleaned fuel system and carbs. Flushed brake system, replaced battery and added tender.”
Modifications: “Aftermarket slip on exhaust.”
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Pirelli Sport Demon and Michelin tires with date codes of 2011 and 1714.
The sale includes one key.
Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection: “Chip in side panels where bolts attach to frame. Couple small chips.”
