After Suzuki introduced the RG Gamma series in 1983, the line grew to span displacements ranging from 250-500cc. Of particular note was the RG400 Gamma Walter Wolf, as it was a two year only model that was exclusively sold in Japan.

A true race replica for the streets, it boasted the latest and greatest in two stroke technology. Along with an advanced aluminum box frame, it also featured Suzuki’s “Full Floater” rear suspension and a water cooled square four. The 397cc engine produced 59 horsepower at 9,000 rpm.

The livery came about because of an Austrian businessman by the name of Walter Wolf. Having made his money in oil, Wolf proceeded to fund his passion for motorsport, first by sponsoring an F1 team and subsequently by sponsoring an RG500. In celebration of the bike’s seven Grand Prix championships, Suzuki sold 99 examples of a street homologated race bike in the Canadian market. Not the be left out, Japan got a limited edition of the RG400 (as you see before you) done up in the paint job.

This example is VIN: HK31A107905.

The odometer shows 15,898 kilometers (9,878 miles).

The owner has several Walter Wolf Gammas – this example and two sequential VIN RG500 WWs. He acquired all three of them from Rick Lance of Lance Gamma roughly 15 years ago. He no longer uses it and wants to pass it along to someone who cares. He recently sold a Ducati 900SS Custom here on Iconic Motorbikes as well.
Maintenance:
“The bike was sent to Steve and the team at Speedwerks to be freshened for the next owner. Videos done by Speedwerks including the bike on the dyno and a cold start video at the top of the listing. The tires on the bike, while in good cosmetic condition are aged out and should be replaced prior to riding..”

During the service, Steve noted a slight bend in the radiator (on the far side of the bike in this photo). It does not affect functionality and there is no leak:

The seller has provided an invoice of the work:

Modifications:
Mac Crane rearsets and pedals.

It is riding on Pirelli MT75 tires that have aged out.

Please note that some photos show the bike without mirrors but they are currently installed on the bike.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Crack on right side and a few touched up areas commensurate with the age of the bike.”

Currently located in Ellicott City, Maryland, this Suzuki is offered on a clean Montana title. Have any RG400 Walter Wolf stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
