Upon its introduction in 1985, Yamaha’s FZ immediately took the 750cc sportbike crown – MCN says it was “as fast as a Kawasaki GPZ900R” and called it “a wonderful piece of engineering.”

The main advancements were found in the Genesis engine, which featured 5 valves per cylinder and wowed just about everyone. Cycle magazine said “It’s hard to conceive of this level of power from an over-the-counter 750 engine…yet the FZ delivers the goods so eagerly it makes other 750s seem as if they belong in a race for freight elevators.” The motor was rated at 106 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, enough to get a top speed near 150 miles per hour.

Manufactured February 1985,this example is VIN: JYA1AE007FA000669. The seller is the second owner, he acquired it four years ago from the original owner in Chicago, Illinois.

True mileage unknown. During his ownership, the seller covered roughly 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 1,627 miles and the seller is including the original odometer which shows 17,149 miles.


“Bought and raced a new one in 1985. Sold it. Several years ago my brother saw a very nicely done resto-mod on the web. It had since haunted my dreams. Got the opportunity to buy this one, so the project and challenge began. Finished product works better than I could’ve expected.”
Maintenance:
The seller notes “tires, brake pads, oil changes, clutch replacements.” He adds that there are no known mechanical issues.

Modifications:
2003 Yamaha R6 wheels, brakes, fork.

Custom top triple clamp, radial clutch and brake master cylinders. Woodcraft fully adjustable clip on bars.

Custom fitted stainless dual exhaust cans.

Custom made taller and firmer seat, rear-set pegs.

It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires with date codes of 0523 and 2223.
