When Yamaha debuted the RZ500 (known in some other markets as the RD500) in 1984, it was arguably the first production race replica. Built to emulate Kenny Roberts’ YZR500 factory racer, the RZ500 was the closest thing two-stroke enthusiasts had to a GP competitor for the road…as long as you didn’t live in the United States of America. Emissions rules put in place by the EPA prevented Yamaha from selling the RZ500 in the US, so the select few we get to enjoy had to be imported (typically from Canada).

This example is VIN: JYA52X002FA004297. The seller purchased this example eight years ago from a private party.

The odometer shows 37,301 miles, however true mileage is unknown. The seller is a well-known 2-stroke collector who is looking to transition his collection to race bikes.

Per the seller, this motorcycle has undergone a ‘nut and bolt restoration’. The seller notes they did not do the restoration themselves, but had the work done on their behalf. “All fluids were changed this spring and a new battery was installed. It has only had non-ethanol fuel since I have had it.”

The seller has included photos taken during a recent service.

Per the seller: The oil injection is operational. (No premix). Lights, turn signals, horn all work as well.

JMC swingarm, SBS brake caliper.

Jolly Moto chambers and exhaust.

Ohlins shock with linkage adjuster.

FZR front end.

MPH speedometer.

17″ wheels.

Zero Gravity windscreen.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on tires that have aged out, however the seller has stated that upon sale he will be installing new tires for the new owner.

The sale includes one key.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
