When it was released, the VF1000R was a bit of a revelation: it was Honda’s flagship, designed to showcase what the Japanese firm was capable of. It was also a huge tease to US riders, because it was initially only released in Europe only – America got the VF1000F instead, which was designed to be more of a touring bike.

The R was Honda’s first road bike to benefit from gear-driven cams.

Manufactured in October of 1985, this example is VIN: JH2SC1612GM100066. The seller acquired it on eBay in 2014.

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 10,872 miles.

The seller “had fun doing a light restoration and cosmetic detailing and taking it to shows. I have three bikes now and would rather ride the BMW 1600 with my wife. Time for someone else to enjoy the passion this bike can bring.” This bike placed 1st in class at the 2015 Huntington Beach Concourse.

Maintenance:
The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues. “I have performed regular maintenance as one would do (oil change, spark plugs, coolant flush, brake fluid). I do all the work myself. I have a few receipts for parts and materials. It is mechanically terrific as one could expect from a 10,000 mile motorcycle.

Modifications:
– Dave Dodge Racing Products top end oiling modification. This mod brings extra oil to the top end preventing premature cam wear. Notorious on early Honda V4s.

– Steel braided brake lines (W/black covering) for safety and reliability, EBC Double H brake pads.

– Restored (new stainless and new packing) original mufflers. Perfect, no scratches. Purrs like a tiger.

– Restoration warning and information decals where appropriate.

– VFR750F Mirrors make it much easier to see to the rear.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes:
– Small scratch on tank that has been touched up.

– Crack in vinyl pad, rear seat cowl.

– Crack in fuse panel cover.

– Typical minor hairline cracks around some fairing mount holes.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Avon Azaro AV46-ST tires which have aged out.

The sale includes a Freddie Spencer livery model RX-7RR4 Arai helmet, size small. Due to age it should be considered display only.
