Less than a year after the initial release of the GSX-R, Suzuki unveiled an even more hardcore version of the watershed model with the GSX-R750 Limited Edition. Just 500 units were built worldwide, with 350 going to the United States, Canada, and Europe, and the remaining 150 going to Japan. Of those 350, 199 examples went to the United States in order to qualify the model for AMA Superbike competition. At approximately two grand more than the base GSX-R750, the LE carried an MSRP of $6,499, making it the most expensive Japanese sportbike offering upon its release.

Separating the LE from the standard 750 was a revised suspension setup using GSX-R1100-spec 41mm forks equipped with Suzuki’s NEAS (New Electronically-Activated Suspension, basically a brake-activated solenoid that stiffened up the damping to prevent front-end dive under braking), and an aluminum-bodied remote reservoir monoshock with an aluminum full floater linkage. Stopping power was bolstered via full-floating 310mm rotors and dual-opposed piston calipers. The swingarm on the LE was also stretched by an inch (25mm) for improved stability and a steering damper was added as a standard item.

Quite possibly the biggest highlight on the new model was its super trick dry clutch, which was married to a close-ratio six-speed gearbox. Replacing the base model’s wet-plate setup, the new dry clutch came paired with an adjustable clutch lever.

The Limited Edition models were also distinguished from the standard version via its special race-inspired livery. Instead of the base model’s white and blue or black and red colors, the LE featured a red, white, and blue scheme complete with “LIMITED EDITION” graphics on the tail. The wheels were also adorned in a matching blue, the chain was gold-plated, and the engine received a special “gun-coat” finish.

Manufactured February 1986, this example is VIN: JS1GR75AXG2106303. Engine: R705125837. The owner purchased the bike nine years ago from a private party out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and states, “It has been on display in my museum for the past 7 years.”

The odometer shows 19,990 kilometers (12,421 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the owner, “New spark plugs, Motul synthetic oil, carbs synchronized, brake fluid replaced and a full highly detailed cleaning was done. The fuel was then removed and the motor fogged with fogging oil. It was then placed on display in my environment controlled museum for the past 7 years. Everything has now just been checked as per the form included with the photos. See the photo of the clutch to see the condition of the oil through the sight glass. It was only run once with this oil at the time of servicing. The battery is new and has not been serviced yet. After the auction if the winning bidder wants a running video I will service the battery, put fuel in, and shoot the running video. It is being left without fuel as it is ready to just be displayed in your living room or collection with no other work required.”

Dreamcycle has performed an inspection of the bike and note the following on their condition report:

Modifications:
Dealer sticker.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Metzeler tires with date codes of 418 and 458.

The sale includes one key.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Minor scratches on the left rear swing arm, some minor cracks above the right mirror on the faring, a few very small chips in the paint on the gas tank. Slight mark below Limited Edition on the right rear faring. Marks on edge of rims from tire changes. The paint on the bodywork of this bike is all factory original. Not a re-paint.”
