Description
Additional photos of this 1986 Yamaha FZ750 are available here for your perusal.
Upon its introduction in 1986, Yamaha’s FZ immediately took the 750cc sportbike crown – MCN says it was “as fast as a Kawasaki GPZ900R” and called it “a wonderful piece of engineering.”
The main advancements were found in the Genesis engine, which featured 5 valves per cylinder and wowed just about everyone. Cycle magazine said “It’s hard to conceive of this level of power from an over-the-counter 750 engine…yet the FZ delivers the goods so eagerly it makes other 750s seem as if they belong in a race for freight elevators.” The motor was rated at 106 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, enough to get a top speed near 150 miles per hour.
This example is VIN: 1FN014125
The odometer shows 6,147 miles.
The original owner had it until 2003, and the second owner kept it in a heated underground garage with no windows until a few months ago so it did not suffer UV damage. The current owner purchased it recently and was planning on keeping it in his long term collection, however he is about to move homes and will not have enough space for it in his new place.
This bike is equipped with the rare factory-optional Harris lower fairings. For the first two years of production, the FZ750 was sold with a half-fairing, but consumers were responding better to full-fairing styling on the new wave of repli-racers. Yamaha UK contracted Harris Performance to build lowers that were sold as a £300 option. For 1987, Yamaha gave the FZ full fairings from the factory.
Per the seller, this Yamaha is in excellent cosmetic condition for the age: “it really is close to out-of-the-box clean. There are two very minor chips on the tank.”
Currently located in Ispwich, England, this FZ750 is offered on a clean UK title. Have any FZ750 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
