2026-10-09 10:50:00 2026-10-09 11:00:00 America/Los_Angeles 1986 Yamaha FZ750 La Grange, Kentucky - An homage to Eddie Lawson’s Daytona winning FZ750, this extensively rebuilt example pairs the Genesis five valve engine with Dymag wheels, a Spondon swingarm, Öhlins shock, Brembo brakes, and Yamaha race kit hardware. https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/1986-yamaha-fz750-5/ Iconic Motorbike Auctions concierge@iconicmotorbikes.com

Upon its introduction in 1985, Yamaha’s FZ immediately took the 750cc sportbike crown – MCN says it was “as fast as a Kawasaki GPZ900R” and called it “a wonderful piece of engineering.”

The main advancements were found in the Genesis engine, which featured 5 valves per cylinder and wowed just about everyone. Cycle magazine said “It’s hard to conceive of this level of power from an over-the-counter 750 engine…yet the FZ delivers the goods so eagerly it makes other 750s seem as if they belong in a race for freight elevators.” The motor was rated at 106 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, enough to get a top speed near 150 miles per hour.

This example is VIN: JYA1AE002GA005781. The seller acquired it from Specialized Motors, LLC in March 2018.

During his ownership, the seller has covered 114 miles. The odometer shows 11,960 miles.

“Placed third in the “race” class at the Garage Brewed Moto Show in 2023. This build can be considered an homage to Eddie Lawson’s 1986 Daytona winning Yamaha FZ750.”

Maintenance:
“Complete engine out, frame off restoration. Frame was red when I purchased it (terrible), so taken completely apart to powder coat the frame and various other bits a more correct color.

Check valve adjustment. Serviced and cleaned carbs and K&N filters. Change oil and oil filter. New chain and sprockets. Service all wheel bearings, swingarm and rear suspension needle bearings. Fresh coolant. Replaced fuel filter with OE (hard to find). I have photo evidence of the teardown and rebuild, but no other records.”

Mechanical Issues:
“Hard to start in cold weather (it came out of Florida). The close ratio transmission is a challenge on the street, you gotta get used to it.”

Modifications:
“I am certain of the following:

Dymag magnesium wheels.

Spondon swingarm with adjustable dog-bones.

Ohlins shock.

Brembo front brake calipers and rotors with magnesium rotor carriers.

Full Supetrapp 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust.

Aftermarket clip-ons.

Billet anodized footpeg carriers, oil cooler bracketry. Oil cooler.

FZR1000 CV carbs with K&N Filters.

Yamaha race kit dry clutch. Yamaha race kit close ratio 6 speed transmission.

Various chrome plated hardware (sidestand, swingarm carrier bolts, peg carrier bolts (this looks better than it sounds)).

The rear caliper and torque arm are not stock and while I think they are off a TZ250, I am not certain of that. Front suspension from the triple clamps to the axle is aftermarket and I think also TZ250, but I can’t confirm.

I am not certain of the engine internals. Specialized Motors “thinks” it has megacycle cams, high compression Yamaha race kit pistons, Carillo rods, and a polished and knife edged crank. It certainly runs much stronger than a stock FZ750, and sounds “lumpy”, but I cannot confirm these mods.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Bridgestone tires with date codes of 2511 and 3308.

The sale includes 1 ignition key and several spare parts.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Small crack on the fairing on left hand side. Small blemish on gas cap, small blemish on right side fairing. Front master cylinder could use a paint job.”
