The Yamaha SRX600 is a cult classic, but it started as a commercial flop. In the US, it sold for just one year, and it was during a time when American riders valued power above everything else. A relatively light weight bike with a 41 horsepower motor just didn’t cut it – but for riders who can appreciate the styling, handling, and the nostalgia of having to kick over the 595cc single motor, the SRX is a rare, interesting classic.

The SRX was also produced in more popular 250 and 400 displacements, but the 600 had a top speed of 106 miles per hour, and a wet weight of 387 pounds. For more information, check out this retrospective on Sport Rider (hosted on Cycle World) in which Dean Adams calls the bike misunderstood and says, “By almost all definitions, the SRX is a fantastic all-around motorcycle.”

This example is VIN: JYA2EG001GA000494. The seller states, “I fell in love with this bike when I saw it. I went to this gentleman’s house to buy some H1 Triple parts and ended up buying this. It was like a candy store, not only was this there but a couple of beautifully restored Z900s, an RD400, and a Honda 400-4. I walked away with this, that was almost 20 years ago. It’s time for me to let someone else become the caretaker of this lovely and sexy classic. Its so unique, beautiful and rare that I’ll miss it greatly but it’s time to turn new chapters in life. My wish is that someone will enjoy its agile beauty and give it the care it deserves for the next 20 years.”

The odometer shows 2,833 miles, however true mileage unknown.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “The typical maintenance and upkeep – oil changes, tune, filters, etc…At the time of my purchase I was told by the seller that as part of the restoration the engine had been completely rebuilt and the odometer replaced. I’ve no documentation to this effect however I have a bunch of new engine case gasket and other miscellaneous parts that came with it. I performed a fair amount of repairs in 2018 included a carb overhaul, a tank and fuel petcock/gasket rebuilds. They’d gotten gummy and needed going through. I replaced the tires in 2005 shortly after purchase with Dunlop D404s front and rear. The bikes always garage kept so the rubbers still soft and supple and the nubs are still there. I’ve replace the rectifier / regulator once and the self cancelling turn signal relay. And let’s not forget lots of cleaning to keep it shiny!”

Modifications:
BSM Vampire stainless exhaust system.

Givi windscreen.

Rich’s custom seat.

Custom paint. “Russ Foy of the former Custom Classic Paint Works.”

Steering damper.

Fork stabilizer.

Stainless steel brake lines.

Not shown: re-jetted carb kit.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop D404 tires with date codes of 0504 and 0504.

The sale includes two keys, owner’s manual, service manual, new engine gaskets, and miscellaneous parts.
