Additional photos of this Yamaha YSR80 are available here for your perusal.
The Yamaha YSR50 was the most common of the rare 50cc sportbikes that came from Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. An instant classic, the YSR50 was always street legal and always seems to put a smile on the face of riders and spectators.
Built to look like a mini RZ500, the YSR50 also featured mini performance. The 49.3cc two-stroke engine was capable of pushing the bike up to 38 miles per hour, but companies like Team Calamari have been making stock performance numbers useless.
Fans of motorcycle endurance racing or the video game Tourist Trophy for the PlayStation 2 may remember the Yamaha Tech 21 team, Yamaha’s factory effort in several races in the late 80s. Probably best known for their performance in the 1985 8 Hours of Suzuka, Yamaha also won Japan’s Motorcycle Road Racing World Championship with a YZR500. To celebrate this win, the company made a limited run (we’ve heard that just 1,000 units were made) of their pocket rocket with matching paint – the Yamaha YSR50 Tech 21 that you see in front of you now.
This example is VIN: 2GX005513. The seller acquired it one year ago from an auction in Japan. He has not ridden it.
The odometer shows 11,320 kilometers (7,033 miles).
Cosmetic Blemishes: please look at the album linked to up top for a full set of photos, below are the most significant cosmetic blemishes.
The seller calls this “the holy grail of the YSR models.” He acquired it as a project as has not tried to start it – he notes that “the bike can use some work, but is complete.”
