While the GSX-R750 debuted in 1985 for most countries, the US first got it and the bigger brother 1100 in 1986. It was an instant classic – an aluminum box frame housed a 128 horsepower oil-cooled engine, and it looked the part thanks to the full bodywork. The dry weight was 433 pounds, an impressively low number for the time.

It also became the first road bike to have a cartridge fork setup and electronically activated suspension. As Bennetts found in its review, “On the open road it was astonishing. Fast and torquey like nothing else I’d ridden, but nimble too, feeling like what I imagined a proper race bike would as it flicked from left to right on the smallest of rider inputs.”

Manufactured December 1986, this example is VIN: JS1GU74A9H2102244. The seller acquired the bike approximately 1.5 years ago from “a gentleman who had it in his garage for a couple decades; he believed he was the second owner.”

The odometer shows 19,947 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “the bike was a labor of love. I the owner, spent hours upon hours to build a beautiful GSXR 1100 Australian Hyper Endurancer, because they’re beautiful and we never had them in the USA. I’ve loved riding it, and enjoy the power of this bike. I wanted a motorcycle that would look like the genuine article.”

He states that he, “rebuilt both the brake and clutch master cylinders with parts from Suzuki, installed a new clutch slave cylinder from Suzuki, new clutch, rebuilt rear brake master cylinder with Suzuki parts, rebuilt all 3 calipers and added new brake fluid. Rebuilt carbs with combination Suzuki parts and a stage III jet kit (installed and dialed in by Mickey Cohen Motorsports). After carbs were rebuilt and dialed in, it was dyno’d by Mickey Cohen Motorsports and was a little over 119HP to the rear wheel. Mickey Cohen Motorsports also rebuilt the front forks. Installed new chain and sprockets, new tires, changed oil and filter using a Suzuki filter and Torco Motorcycle Oil.”

He adds that he “used NOS Suzuki parts for just about everything when building, which includes: NOS mirrors, NOS Grips, NOS signals, OE Suzuki sourced fasteners throughout as well as rubber bushings for seats, tank mount, etc. Seat reupholstered as well as the seat cowl pad. Powdercoated top clamp and clip-ons, installed NOS fork top rubber caps as well. NOS clutch and front brake lever. NOS handlebar end-weights with NOS screws. Wire harnesses were serviced, repaired, restored and retaped. Wheels were powdercoated prior to installing new Bridgestone Battleaxe Tires front and rear. Gauges are clean and clear, all warning lamps work, all headlamps, tail lamp and signals work as they should. All footpegs rebuilt/cleaned so the rears lock when folded up when no passenger is on, installed braided brake and clutch hoses. New windshield (not NOS, but a excellent reproduction) with NOS windshield rubber trim strip. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a nicer GSXR1100.”
