Description

Click here for an CycleVIN Motorcycle History Report on this 1987 Suzuki RG250 Gamma. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

The Suzuki RG250 Gamma was introduced in 1983 as the first mass-produced motorcycle with a 100% aluminium box section chassis. This, combined with the light weight of <300 pounds, anti-dive forks, and “Full Floater” rear suspension, is why it is considered by some to be the first street-legal race replica.

A review in Cycle magazine bemoaned that fact, as they loved what it represented: “Sure, the Gamma will work as a Saturday-cruise-to-the-beach special, and be wasted doing so. In the month we’ve spent with the RG, it’s happier threatening life, limb, and license. No, it’s not unsafe; quite to the contrary, it’ll get you out of trouble as fast as you get yourself into it. Some motorcycles are fun to ride fast, others – better yet – are willing accomplices to misbehavior, and still others – best of all – are almost bonafide perpetrators themselves.”

Manufactured in September of 1986, this example is VIN: JS1GJ21A5H2100037.

It came to Iconic from a regular client who’s a prominent two-stroke collector, he has been thinning out his collection for a few years now with Iconic to fund some medical bills. Other bikes he has sold with us include:
1983 Suzuki RG250 Gamma
Suzuki GSX-R750 Skoal Bandit Replica
Suzuki RG500 Gamma
Suzuki RGV250 SP VJ21
Suzuki RGV250 VJ22 Lucky Strike

As you can probably tell, he is a big Suzuki fan and was on the hunt for a very nice example of a RG250, his wife sources this one for him in Canada several years ago. The odometer shows 2,362 miles, however true mileage is unknown and the sale includes an extra odometer which reads 23,796 kilometers (14,786 miles).

Maintenance:
When the seller acquired this bike he pulled it apart and replaced any weathered or worn parts with new old stock items. He also had it professionally painted to look as close to original as possible. The motor showed strong and well kept so he serviced it, made sure it was within factory specs, replaced any worn parts and detailed it as well. It came out so nice that he opted to drain the fluids and put it on display in his collection. As with many of our listings, we wanted to prove it runs and get it ready to ride & show so the seller had us replace the battery, clean and sync the carbs, and change the coolant and brake fluid.
