Introduced in 1988, the ZX-10 was also known as the Tomcat in certain countries. It also had another name when it was released: the fastest production motorcycle in the world, thanks to a 165 mile-per-hour top speed!

That was possible due to 997cc engine, which evolved from the unit out of the GPz1000RX but gained bigger valves and a higher compression ratio en route to producing 135 horsepower and 75 ft-lbs of torque. Surrounding the engine was Kawasaki’s first use of a perimeter aluminum frame, which helped keep weight at 541 pounds dry.

This example is VIN: JKAZXCB16JA002898. The seller is the original owner, he purchased it new in 1988 from a dealership in Pasadena, California.

The odometer shows 5,315 miles.

The seller states: “It has always been garage kept or in our living room. Never ridden on dirt. While we live on a gravel road now, it had been transported in an enclosed trailer. Stored indoors since new and never dropped. The bike is in perfect running condition”.
Maintenance:
The seller states: “Oil changes every 2,000 miles with Redline synthetic 20W50 after the first 500 mile break-in. Valve adjustment, cams checked. No documentation. New carb float needles (K and L) installed August 2025, new fuel line from tank to fuel filter. Carbs fully checked and cleaned August 2025. Bike has always run ethanol free gas, so very little to clean. Carb diaphragms checked OK. After running for 30 min, on a test drive, I did not see any oil or coolant leaks.”
Mechanical Notes:
The seller states: “Oil pressure gauge needs to be replaced. It is a Lockhart aftermarket. It works, and does not leak, but the bezel is cracked and the needle is “off”. Bike has been using Redline oil since after break-in.”
The seller states: “I would expect new fork seals will be needed, although at present there are no leaks. While servicable, I recommend new fuel line from the filter to pump and from pump to carbs”.
Modifications:
Not pictured: 5 degree timing advancer installed, stock unit also included. Progressive front fork spring, Works Performance rear shock, w/ remote reservoir.
