Suzuki pulled the cover off the first-year GSX-R750 at the 1984 Cologne Motor Show, before its official launch in March of 1985. Upon its release, the Gixxer was unquestionably king, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

Suzuki revamped just about everything for the 1988 debut of the second generation. The aerodynamics were improved (11% less drag), the wheelbase was shortest in class (140cm), and the alloy frame was stronger (60% more rigidity). There were several other upgrades (such as a new short-stroke 748cc engine), but one specific change would end up becoming a nickname for the entire generation – the “slingshot” Mikuni BST36SS carbs.

Basic specifications were 112 horsepower, 55 lb-ft of torque, and a dry weight of 430 pounds. New for ’88 were 17″ wheels, while braking duties were handled by 320mm dual hydraulic discs up front and a 220mm hydraulic disc in the rear.

Manufactured in January 1988, this example is VIN: JS1GR77A4J2102039. The seller acquired it two years ago from a local private party.

During his ownership, the seller has covered 200 miles. The odometer shows 21,038 miles.

Per the seller, the bike “had been sitting for a while (owner guessed at least a decade). Overall the bike was in pretty good shape, although dirty and scraped from storage. Changed oil and filter and it immediately started up hooked to a bottle. Took off tank and plastics and had the bike serviced. Original windscreen. Seat upholstery is nice and original. Lots of NOS parts were incorporated into freshening up the bike. NOS right mirror, good left mirror. Lots of NOS fasteners. Has original tool kit. Has a Vance and Hines pipe jet kit and K&N pods. Runs and rides very well. I’m selling some bikes to thin the herd and purchase a RC30.”

Maintenance:
Fully serviced at Mach 1 Motorcycles in Costa Mesa, California:
Mach 1 changed seals and oil in the forks. Rebuilt the carbs, installed new chain and sprockets, installed new tires (wheels were powdercoated and had new bearings prior to new tires installed). Rebuilt brake calipers with Suzuki parts, new EBS pads all the way around, and black braided brake lines. Replaced old rear shock with a good used unit. Right controls are very nice, left controls are NOS Suzuki. Bar end weights and all four turn signals are NOS as well. The paint was touched up by California Cycle Design very carefully, new RD tail section decals. And repainted seat cowl (solo seat).

The tank was touched up by adding the ‘R’ on each side of the tank, which required painting the white and re-clearing the tank…tank looks like new and preserved as much paint on the bike as possible. The 2 side covers have new decals for the GSXR Slingshot 750 and then re-cleared the rear side covers. The paint is a overall 9 or better, I would say…It is very nice! I don’t think the pictures do the bike justice.

New levers, many NOS fasteners, RH mirror.”

Mechanical Issues:
None, it rides excellent.”

Modifications:
Black braided brake lines.

Vance & Hines exhaust.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop tires with date codes of 4724 and 4924.

The sale includes 1 ignition key.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Some age showing on anodized aluminum rearset brackets, scuff on rear area of exhaust pipe.”

Currently located in Huntington Beach, California, this Suzuki is offered on a clean California title with registration current through April 2027.
