The Yamaha YSR50 was the most common of the rare 50cc sportbikes that came from Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. An instant classic, the YSR50 was always street legal and always seems to put a smile on the face of riders and spectators.
Built to look like a mini RZ500, the YSR50 also featured mini performance. The 49.3cc two-stroke engine was capable of pushing the bike up to 38 miles per hour, but companies like Team Calamari have been making stock performance numbers useless with years of aftermarket parts and performance modifications if you are so inclined.
Manufactured in August of 1988, this example is VIN: JYA2RRA08KA036187. The seller acquired the bike six months ago from a private party in Petaluma, California.
The odometer shows 177 miles. Per the seller, the bike had 3,928 miles before the restoration. However, true mileage is unknown.
Maintenance:
The seller states that he gave this YSR50 “a ground-up restoration” that was completed on 10/13/23. In doing so, he “powdercoated the frame, the subframe, the swingarm , the handlebars, the upper/lower fork clamps, and the fairing stays.” He also “media-blasted and repainted the engine cases, the forks, and the exhaust.” Finally, he reports that “the tank and fairings have been repainted and new custom OEM color matching decals were applied.”
Elswhere, the seller replaced the battery, the chain, and the windscreen, and replaced the engine seals, gaskets, fluids, and bolts.
Modifications:
Team Calimari swingarm brace.
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on its original Dunlop K825 tires.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
Per the seller, there are no cosmetic blemishes of note.
