Coming to market in 1988, the R100GS was BMW’s newest iteration of adventure-touring motorcycling, building off of the success of both the R80G/S and R80GS models. With the goal of making a motorcycle that was equally capable on-and-off-road, the R100GS featured a 980cc air-cooled, twin cylinder boxer, which was good for roughly 60 horsepower and 55 ft./lb. of torque.

With a low center of gravity mainly due to the placement of the engine, the GS was surprisingly capable on difficult terrain. To further enhance the off-road potential of R100GS, BMW released the motorcycle with a dirt-oriented wheel setup of a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. Rounding out the long-distance package was a new larger tank, meant to extend the adventure even further.

34,007 examples of the R100GS were built in total, with the black and yellow livery earning the affectionate nickname of “bumblebee.”

This example is VIN: 6333277. The seller acquired the bike from a private party in Missoula, Montana. He states that “I am the third owner. The original owner purchased the bike in Zimbabwe, brought the bike back with him to Ireland, and then moved with it to the United States. I purchased it from the second owner May 2021.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 500 miles. The odometer shows 25,613 kilometers (15,915 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the seller, the prior owner “had the carbs and tank cleaned” and installed the following “new main seal, new fork seals, new dyna coils, stainless steel crash bars, stainless side stand, engine/oil pan bash plate, oil cooler relocation kit / new oil cooler, and oil pan expansion (distance ring).”

Under his ownership, he states that he has “replaced the battery and kept the bike stored inside a climate-controlled environment. It has only been run with non-ethanol fuel”

Modifications:
Bash plate.

Oil cooler relocation kit.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Continental TKC70 tires that have aged out.
