Introduced in 1988, the ZX-10 was also known as the Tomcat in certain countries. It also had another name when it was released: the fastest production motorcycle in the world, thanks to a 165 mile-per-hour top speed!

That was possible due to 997cc engine, which evolved from the unit out of the GPz1000RX but gained bigger valves and a higher compression ratio en route to producing 135 horsepower and 75 ft-lbs of torque. Surrounding the engine was Kawasaki’s first use of a perimeter aluminum frame, which helped keep weight at 541 pounds dry.

Manufactured in June of 1988, this example is VIN: JKAZXCB17KA018450. The seller acquired it in the fall of 2024 from the second owner in Buffalo, New York.

The odometer shows 28,211 miles.

“The second owner purchased it in 1993 with 6,564 miles on it, also purchased in the Western New York region. Fantastic motorcycle and a gift to stumble upon such a piece of motorsport history. I am looking to move to Colorado, its time to part ways. Plenty of fish in the sea and I look forward to the next set of motorcycles I end up picking up out west.”

Maintenance:
“Upon purchasing, new fluids and oil filter. Fluids include, clutch, brakes, coolant, and oil. Replaced the alternator (stator & rectifier are one unit on this motorcycle) with a OEM good condition one purchased from eBay motors. New battery.
Oil changed every 500 miles roughly during my ownership. Previous owner stated he changed the oil every 500 miles. I thought that sounded excessive but I followed his lead due to his length of ownership of the machine. I figured I’d keep the treatment going, oils cheap, engines are not.”
Mechanical Issues:
“The front tire could use a re-balance, at times if you take your hands off the bars while going 30-60mph you may get some wobble. If you are looking to ride this bike, new tires + balancing would make life a bit better. Tires are out of date code.”

Modifications:
The seller states that this bike is stock.

It is riding on Continental ContiForce tires from 2007.

The sale includes one ignition key, Kawasaki owner’s manual, Haynes workshop manual, and tool kit.
