In order to stay afloat amidst the Japanese motorcycle tsunami, Moto Guzzi had to find new ways to attract clients. Because let’s face it: the machines coming from the likes of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha were highly advanced, so trying to compete from a technological standpoint was of little use. Instead, Guzzi decided to bet on some good ole fashioned ’60s nostalgia with the release of the Mille GT in 1987.

Interestingly enough, the Mille was actually a hybrid born from two existing Moto Guzzis of the era: the California and the T5. In practice, this meant that the bike incorporated the 948cc V-twin from the former along with the bodywork, the frame, the gearbox, and various other components from the latter. Add to that a set of larger 18″ wheels (up from 16″), and what resulted made for a marked improvement over the largely unloved T5 – at least on paper.

For all of its promise, the Mille GT barely sold during its short production life. Now, however, the bike has proven increasingly popular amongst Guzzi fans – especially because you won’t find many on the road.

This example is VIN: VH100249.

The odometer shows 6,918 miles.
