While the GSX-R750 debuted in 1985 for most countries, the US first got it and the bigger brother 1100 in 1986. It was an instant classic – an aluminum box frame housed a 128 horsepower oil-cooled engine, and it looked the part thanks to the full bodywork. The dry weight was 433 pounds, an impressively low number for the time.

1988 brought the first big update, starting a generation that Suzuki fans like to call the Slingshot as the bikes used “slingshot” carbs. They were designed as a hybrid of flat-slide carbs and CV carbs, and the term referred to the shape of the slide. Plus, it’s just a great nickname! For 1989, Suzuki brought out an all-new air/oil cooled 1,127cc inline four engine that bumped up output to 143 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque.

This example is VIN: JS1GV73AXK2100590, Engine Number: V710-101194.

I bought the bike in Abbotsford, British Columbia approximately six years ago from the previous owner. He had it stashed away in a barn under a tarp with the tires and suspension both completely shot. Oddly, the rest of the bike seemed to be in great shape as it started right up and the bodywork seemed solid with little to no rust or damaged parts anywhere. I rode the bike to a friends house a few miles away, returned home to Oregon the next day and drove my truck back a month later to pick the bike up. I then imported the bike back to the United States, filling out all the necessary paperwork and had a bike titled in Oregon.” Since then, he’s covered roughly 10,000 kilometers. The odometer shows 62,558 kilometers (38,871 miles).

Aftermarket adjustable brake lever.

HEL brake and clutch lines.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

The sale includes the stock wheels, exhaust, front end, sprocket cover, and solo seat.

The seller states that there are no mechanical issues. “I had a complete tuneup done on it about 8,000 km ago including a new air filter, plugs, oil and oil filter. Shock was rebuilt two years ago and has no leaks, front forks were rebuilt two weeks ago using new seals and fork oil. All gauges, lights, and horn work. Bike is ready to ride as is to be your daily driver, commuter or weekend canyon rider.”

He’s selling it because he’s “a traveling nurse and as of last year I’ve been helping out in various COVID hotspots around the country including Brooklyn, New York during the height of the pandemic. My focus now is on career and higher education and the bike doesn’t get ridden or paid as much attention as it deserves. That being said, the bike is still in mint condition and runs and rides perfectly.” Currently located in Glendale, Arizona, this Suzuki is offered on a clean Oregon title.
