Description

Additional photos of this 1989 Suzuki GSX-R750 are available here for your perusal.

Suzuki pulled the cover off the first-year GSX-R750 at the 1984 Cologne Motor Show, before its official launch in March of 1985. Upon its release, the Gixxer was unquestionably king, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

Suzuki revamped just about everything for the 1988 debut of the second generation. The aerodynamics were improved (11% less drag), the wheelbase was shortest in class (140cm), and the alloy frame was stronger (60% more rigidity). There were several other upgrades (such as a new short-stroke 748cc engine), but one specific change would end up becoming a nickname for the entire generation – the “slingshot” Mikuni BST36SS carbs.

Basic specifications were 112 horsepower, 55 lb-ft of torque, and a dry weight of 430 pounds. New for ’88 were 17″ wheels, while braking duties were handled by 320mm dual hydraulic discs up front and a 220mm hydraulic disc in the rear.

Manufactured in September 1988, this example is VIN: JS1GR77A5K2100432, Engine #: R708-102792.

The odometer shows 22,543 miles.

The seller believes that he is the fifth owner. Per the previous owner (an engineer in Southern California), “the bike has always been garaged and well cared for. It survived the last 30 years without having its frame polished, being raced or otherwise abused.”

The previous owner had the bike re-painted and re-decaled. “He said the original bodywork was un-crashed and in good shape physically but suffered from fading and the yellowing you will often seen on the decals. He left the tank and front fender original as they were nice – likewise the solo cowl is original Suzuki paint. They are in excellent shape.

Recent maintenance includes a carb clean three months ago, almost new RK chain, fresh brake fluid flush front/rear, and oil change. The seller states that everything works.

Modifications:
Period correct Yoshimura Duplex headers and newer RS-3 slip-on exhaust with Factory Pro jet kit.

1990 Suzuki GSX-R750 rear wheel (allows for 180 width rear tire).

Suzuki GSX-R1100 rear shock.

Suzuki GSX-R1100 gauge surround.

Flush mount front turn signals.

Battery tender lead.

Smoked windscreen.

The sale includes the rear seat + matching cowl, stock rear fender, and a service manual.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

It is riding on Pirelli Diablo tires with date codes of 5215 and 0117.

Inside of the tank:

The sale includes one key.
