1989 Yamaha FZR400R 3EN2

At a time when Japanese manufacturers were getting increasingly aggressive and race-oriented with their 400s to compete in their domestic Formula 3 championship, Yamaha introduced the FZR400 in 1986 as a bike to be enjoyed “on twisty public roads where the customers would actually be riding and enjoying them.”

But Yamaha did not stop there – in 1989 they debuted an up-spec model called the FZR400R, but they did not offer it in America. Claimed hp was 60 out of the 399cc horsepower, enough for a top speed of 122 miles per hour.

The R also boasted a cosmetic upgrade which made it look like a baby OW-01 with the flush-mount headlights.

The odometer shows 8,206 KM which is 5,099 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller states “The bike received replacement tires back in 2015 that only have 50 miles or so on them. All the fluids were just changed, oil Yamalube 4, OEM oil filter, 5.1 Motul brake fluid. Bike was only stored with Ethanol free gas so the carburetors are very clean. Brand new Yuasa battery, the only legitimate battery offered as the terminals are switched around. YB12AL-A2.”

It is riding on Metzler tires which have aged out with date codes of 2814 and 0215.
