Additional photos of this Yamaha FZR600 are available here for your perusal.

When it was introduced in 1989, the FZR600 was a quantum leap forward that was so good that Yamaha basically left it untouched until 1993. The Japanese company was focused on making a great base for production racing, and they were quickly proven correct – in its first year, 9 out of the top 10 finishers at Daytona were on Yamahas and first place went to none other than John Kocinski.

The chassis was very similar to the unit out of the FZR400, though the larger 599cc inline 4-cylinder engine produced a heftier 90 horsepower.

Several models of the FZR600 came with Yamaha’s EXUP valve system, which helped maintain back pressure when the engine was turning at low speeds – it led to better mid-range power though top-end power was reduced to 76 horsepower.
