Introduced in 1987, the 851 made Ducati relevant in motorcycle racing again, earning a WSBK championship in 1990 and launching a series of V-Twin superbikes that would last for more than three decades.
The 851cc L-Twin featured fuel injection, liquid cooling, and desmo 4V heads, producing 104 horsepower and 52.5 pound feet of torque. Ducati specified Brembo brakes front and rear, and by 1990 the 851 had Showa forks and a Ohlins rear shock. Top speed was 155 miles per hour.
This example (VIN: ZDM1HB6R6LB001245, Engine #: HB6L001339) shows 20,831 miles on the odometer.
It was originally purchased at Hansen Motorcycles in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on March 14th, 1990 for $9,350.
It comes to us from a Wisconsin collector who enjoyed WSBK homologation bikes. It is in impressive cosmetic condition and is up to date on service, as well. It has new fluids, belts, and clutch/brake lines.
The sale includes the original purchase paperwork, sales brochure, owner’s manual, tool kit, and a spare key. It runs perfectly and there are no known mechanical issues.
