Description
Additional photos of this 1990 Yamaha FZR400 are available here for your perusal.
At a time when Japanese manufacturers were getting increasingly aggressive and race-oriented with their 400s to compete in their domestic Formula 3 championship, Yamaha introduced the FZR400 in 1986 as a bike to be enjoyed “on twisty public roads where the customers would actually be riding and enjoying them.” The US got it in 1988, and many riders preferred it over the bigger brother FZR600.
For more on the FZR400, check out this excellent profile on Yamaha’s site where they talk about the challenges of it being the first motorcycle to use “full-fledged radial tires” and how they fought the urge to implement quick steering like their competition to create something that consumers would enjoy more on the street.
This example is VIN: JYA3BFE04LA013024. The seller purchased the bike from the original owner last year. “It was sitting in his family room, amongst a number of other bikes.”
During his ownership, the seller has ridden the bike for approximately 50-100 miles. The odometer shows 7,525 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I changed the fluids and was able to get it running, without taking it apart. It starts, idles and runs like new.” He also notes that, “the rear brake is not working, but I have an NOS caliper that will go with the bike. I actually suspect the slave cylinder to be the problem, but I have not yet confirmed this.”
Modifications:
The rear fender has been removed, but the sale will include the original.
Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. The seller reports that “The bike absolutely looks as good in person, if not better than in the pictures.”
The adhesive is beginning to pull away on the solo seat.
It is riding on Shinko 006 Podium tires with date codes of 0521 and 0921.
The sale includes the original owner’s manual.
