Part of that came from the fact that it was the first production motorcycle with a ram-air intake, which helped the 1,052cc inline four engine produce a claimed 145 horsepower and 80 ft-lbs of torque.
In a period review, Cycle World said, “Now two years old, the Kawasaki ZX-11 Ninja is still the baddest, meanest, flat-nastiest motorcycle available. Forget about the other big-bore sportbikes: They’re all slow.”
Despite its immense performance, the Ninja ZX-11 was noted for being easy to ride and easy to maintain, which enabled it to have a lengthy production run that lasted until 2001.
