The ZX-7 was born out of Kawasaki’s ZXR750 race bike effort, which would go on to be a success on the racetrack as well as the showroom floor. It showcased an aluminum perimeter frame and a highly tuned GPX750 engine. Known as the ZXR in most of the world, this was marketed as the ZX-7 in the United States – and it was defined by dual headlights, air intake tubes, and ample use of Kawi green on the bodywork and wheels.
The model got a significant update in 1991, which was internally known as the J model. It made 100 horsepower at the crank, weighed roughly 10 pounds less than the previous generation, and was upgraded with USD forks.
This example is VIN: JKAZXDJ12MA001131.
The odometer shows 37,029 miles.
The seller acquired it over 15 years ago, and he mostly kept it in storage over the last ten years with little riding time. It was recently pulled from storage and given fresh fluids, NGK spark plugs, a new air filter, and a rebuilt petcock. In preparation for the listing, the seller also had Iconic install a new battery and rebuild the carbs. He notes that the bike needs new tires and the fork seals should be replaced.
Modifications:
This J model has been built as a tribute to the homologation special ZX-7R model (K generation) with rare and original K parts:
Factory ZX-7R aluminum fuel tank, rear subframe, and one piece tail cowl.
Full period-correct Muzzy exhaust with modified jetting to suit.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes that there are minor flaws in a number of places on the bodywork, the swingarm shows some scratches, and there are paint flaws on the wheels.
The rubber stay for the speedo line needs attention and there are a few missing fasteners from the bodywork. In addition, the solo tail cowl has some chips and marks and is missing the trunk key lock.
Finally there is some corrosion on various bits of hardware and one of the air intake tubes is cracked.
This ZX7 needs a new home as the seller is starting to thin out his collection of bikes in an effort to gain back a little garage space.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Kawasaki ZX-7 is offered on a clean California title on non-op registration with no back fees.
The seller sums up this bike by saying that this “could be a nice rider with some new tires and a bit more service, turned into something right at home in any collection or ready for your next track day!” “Have any Kawasaki ZX-7/ZX-7R stories or questions about this listing?
