Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1991 Yamaha R1-Z.

Two-stroke lovers, rejoice! The Yamaha R1-Z was exclusively offered in Japan and was only sold for just two years (1990-1991) – it’s a very rare find in the US. The trellis frame looks great, and we love the “Individual Sports” and “2 Cycle Parallel Twin 249” stickers on the tank and tail.

The retuned TZR250 motor (which was also very similar to the engine in the TDR250) produces 44 (restricted) horsepower at 9,500 rpm and 27 pound-feet of torque at 8,500 rpm.

Triple disc brakes reined in that power quite easily thanks to the weight of just 293 pounds.

This example is VIN: 3XC041528. The seller purchased the bike two years ago from a dealership in Japan and states, “I actually love this bike. It’s reliable and super fun to ride, but I have many other vintage two-strokes and do not have the space and time to manage all and get riding time in.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 800 miles. The odometer shows 12,159 kilometers (7,555 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I have removed and cleaned the carbs, air filter, flushed the brake lines, changed the transmission oil to VR1 (strait 50 wt so it needs to warm up a bit before putting it in gear). The VR1 has high zinc content which lubricates inner crank bearings well. Might be running a tiny bit lean on the high rev zone. Might want to adjust the needle position.”
Modifications:
“The factory clip-ons are gone and replaced with Posh bars and the upper triple clamp (top clamp) has been replaced with a N Project billet aluminum clamp. Chrome expansion chambers with carbon silencers. Gold anodized aluminum posh handlebars with matching gold bar end weights. Clear lens turn signals. NHK steering dampener. Super bike grips. Carbon fiber dash cover. Chrome upright mirrors with blue tint glass – I am a big boy and can actually see with these mirrors.”

It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax BT-39 tires with date codes of 3015 and 3315.

The sale includes two keys and new Zeeltronic CDI.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“There’s a jacket scuff on the tank, where the jacket rubs from my fat belly. There’s a little scuff on the side cover on motor. The silencers have stickers that are coming off a bit. Otherwise, this bike is pretty cherry! Especially for a JDM bike that’s 34 years old.”
