At Yamaha’s headquarters in Iwata, Japan, they host a collection of impressive machines. One of them is the RZ50, a bike that they say “was created to provide the same 2-stroke machine appeal as the RZ250 and RZ350, but in a 50cc supersports package. The lightweight, highly rigid double cradle frame mounted a liquid-cooled, 2-stroke, single-cylinder engine with the Yamaha Energy Induction System (YEIS) and a 6-speed close-ratio transmission.”
“The chassis had a Monocross suspension, 18-inch cast wheels for the front and rear and a front disc brake, and the RZ50 boasted the best performance in its class at the time.” We just say that it’s very, very cool. The liquid-cooled, 49cc 2-stroke motor produced 7 horsepower and 4.5 lb-ft of torque – not big numbers, but it only had to move 165 pounds of bike.
