Additional photos of this Yamaha RZ50 are available here for your perusal.

At Yamaha’s headquarters in Iwata, Japan, they host a collection of impressive machines. One of them is the RZ50, a bike that they saywas created to provide the same 2-stroke machine appeal as the RZ250 and RZ350, but in a 50cc supersports package. The lightweight, highly rigid double cradle frame mounted a liquid-cooled, 2-stroke, single-cylinder engine with the Yamaha Energy Induction System (YEIS) and a 6-speed close-ratio transmission.”

“The chassis had a Monocross suspension, 18-inch cast wheels for the front and rear and a front disc brake, and the RZ50 boasted the best performance in its class at the time.” We just say that it’s very, very cool. The liquid-cooled, 49cc 2-stroke motor produced 7 horsepower and 4.5 lb-ft of torque – not big numbers, but it only had to move 165 pounds of bike.

This numbers-matching example (VIN: 5R2374319, Engine #: 5R2374319) is part of a collection sourced in South Africa (and currently available at our shop in Santa Monica, California).

We believe (but are not able to confirm) that it is a 1991 model.

The odometer shows 29,679 kilometers (18,441 miles).

The history of this bike is not known. In preparation for the listing, we cleaned and lined the tank and changed the oil/filter.

Modifications:
We believe that it was repainted.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
Rust on the horn housing.

Paint chip in tail.

Mis-aligned front fairing.

Cracked rubber on right side footpeg.

The sale includes one key.
