Introduced in 1987, the 851 made Ducati relevant in motorcycle racing again, earning a WSBK championship in 1990 and launching a series of V-Twin superbikes that would last for more than three decades.

The 851cc L-Twin featured fuel injection, liquid cooling, and desmo 4V heads, producing 104 horsepower and 52.5 pound feet of torque. Top speed was 155 miles per hour.

This example is VIN: ZDM1HB6P5NB003361. The seller acquired the bike from a private party nine years ago.

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately four miles The odometer shows 1,716 miles. Per the seller, “Starts, runs and rides excellent. Mechanically sound. Custom work was done by previous owner. The bike has numerous cosmetic issues and parts removed by the previous owner. The bodywork is all genuine Ducati 851 (getting rare) and other than the custom paint is in good condition and has correct part numbers. I bought this bike knowing the cosmetic issues but I have too many projects and getting to old too finish some of my project bikes so going to let this one go for someone else to enjoy riding or restoring.”

Maintenance:
The seller stattes that, “during the past month, I cleaned the inside of fuel tank with evaporust solution — had light rust, did not require coating. I replaced fuel lines and fuel filter. Changed oil and filter, brake and clutch fluids. Installed new timing belts. Repaired stator / rectifier connector (common problem with 851’s). Installed a new battery. The coolant was changed and all hose clamps were replaced.”

Modifications:
Fast by Ferracci carbon fiber mufflers.

Custom Paint.

Kevlar Brake Lines.

Aftermarket license plate holder.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax tires with date codes of 1309 and 1309.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
Per the seller, “the custom paint on bodywork has several repaired paint chips.”

“There is a paint repair above the RH front turn signal.”

The Helmet lock, RH relay cover, and rear fender are missing.

“The rear license plate fender was cut off and an aftermarket plate holder attached.”

“The rear turn signals are wrong and expose holes in the upper fender panel that are normally covered by stock turn signals.”

“The front turn signals have cracks. The tail light is cracked around one of the screws. There are some fasteners drilled for safety wire.”
