In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the small-displacement race replica market in Asia was booming. Legions of bright-eyed young riders lined up to fork over their hard-earned cash for competition-derived road-legal runners like Yamaha’s TZR250, Kawasaki’s KR-1, and Suzuki’s RGV250.
In certain Southeast Asian markets, demand was high for even smaller displacement bikes – accordingly, Honda launched the NSR150 for the Taiwanese market.
Though small in size, the NSR150 was hardly lacking when it came to smile-factor. Its 150cc two-stroke, liquid-cooled engine produced up to 39 horsepower – plenty of grunt given its svelte 260-pound curb weight.
What’s more, the little Honda boasted tons of big-bike tech, including a six-speed transmission, Nikasil coated cylinders, RC valves, and a Pro Arm rear swingarm. When combined with an eye-catching Repsol livery, what you had a pocket-sized MotoGP tribute.
