The ZX-7 was born out of Kawasaki’s ZXR750 race bike effort, which would go on to be a success on the racetrack as well as the showroom floor. It showcased an aluminum perimeter frame and a highly tuned GPX750 engine. Known as the ZXR in most of the world, this was marketed as the ZX-7 in the United States – and it was defined by dual headlights, air intake tubes, and ample use of Kawi green on the bodywork and wheels.
The base model got a significant update in 1991, which was internally known as the J model. It weighed roughly 10 pounds less than the previous generation and was upgraded with 43mm USD forks.
As Classic Motorbikes puts it in its review: “In keeping with Kawasaki’s wild and raucous two-stroke machines, the ZXR750 is a thoroughly raw and untamed beast. The engine develops its 100 plus horses in way that never fails to excite while the chassis barely keeps it all in check, adding up to a breath taking journey every inch of the way. It is hard, if not impossible, to ride the ZXR in a manner less than the pure lunatic.”
This example is VIN: ZX750J0022998. It came to Iconic as an import from England; prior history is not known.
The odometer shows 29,624 kilometers (18,407 miles).
